The following profiles highlight how Sunflower Adult Day Services has helped families in a variety of situations. The names have been changed, but the stories are all true.
Frail Elder
Katherine is fading. She is in her 90s and lives with her daughter, Gwen. Katherine does not have Alzheimer's or other chronic disease, and she hasn't had a stroke or other medical crisis. She is just getting frailer with age, and seems to spend more of her time sleeping and less time being engaged with other people and events.
Katherine started attending Sunflower Adult Day Services two half-days per week. She has visibly brightened and perked up, thanks to the stimulation of interacting with others and participating in activities that she finds interesting and enjoyable. It also provides a reliable break for Gwen at an affordable price.
Peace of Mind
Esther lives by herself in her small Salina home. She relies on her daughter, Susie, and Susie's husband Bill for shopping and taking care of her house and yard. Esther is getting forgetful and not taking care of herself as well as she used to. Susie works full-time, but she has started checking in on Esther every morning and evening.
Esther began attending Sunflower Adult Day Services several days each week. She looks forward to visiting with her new-found friends, and she particularly enjoys the singing and music therapy. Susie is able to go through her day at work with greater peace of mind, knowing that her Mom is safe, secure and having a good time!
